Whether due to declining skin elasticity with age or excess skin after weight loss, the inner thighs are often a site of loose, sagging skin. In addition, excess fat deposits in the area can cause a loss of toned or smooth appearance in the area, regardless of whether patients are at an otherwise healthy weight. For these patients, a thigh lift may be the best option to restore a youthful, athletic, and smooth appearance in the thighs. For Detroit area patients, Dr. Rifai offers the best in thigh lift results, utilizing advanced techniques learned over his thirty-plus years of training and experience.
What is a Thigh Lift?
A thigh lift is a surgical procedure designed to reshape and contour the thighs, focusing particularly on the inner thigh area. This is achieved by reducing excess skin and fat as well as reshaping and lifting underlying tissues to create the desired appearance. At Birmingham Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Rouchdi Rifai utilizes the Lockwood Suspension Technique for superior thigh lift results.
How is a Thigh Lift Performed?
Thigh lifts are typically performed under general anesthesia. Once the anesthesia has taken effect, Dr. Rifai makes small and strategic incisions according to the Lockwood Suspension Technique. This ensures minimal scarring while still allowing access to the tissues as needed. Through these incisions, Dr. Rifai will remove excess skin and reshape the tissues of the inner thigh area. Excess fat can also be removed, often using liposuction. With these steps complete, the incisions can then be closed using sutures.
Who is a Good Candidate for a Thigh Lift?
Patients who are dissatisfied with the appearance of their thighs, particularly the inner thighs, are typically good candidates for a thigh lift. These patients often see excess loose skin and sagging in the area due to reduced skin laxity with aging or weight loss and weight fluctuation. Prior to undergoing a thigh lift, patients should be at a healthy and stable weight. They should also be generally healthy overall, including being nonsmokers and avoiding certain medications. During a consultation, Dr. Rifai will review your health history to ensure that you can safely undergo the surgery. He will also complete a brief visual examination of the treatment area to determine whether a thigh lift is your best option. In some cases, another procedure such as liposuction may be better suited to help you reach your goal results.

Meet Dr. RifaiRecovery After a Thigh Lift
After a thigh lift, patients can typically return home with a trusted family member, friend, or other caretaker. Symptoms during the initial healing process can include soreness, swelling, redness, and bruising. Compression garments are typically worn to reduce swelling and encourage proper healing. Patients may also be prescribed pain medication to maintain their comfort throughout the initial healing process. On average, patients require a week to two weeks to rest and recover before returning to work or other normal routines. Most thigh lift patients can return to all activities, including exercise, within about six weeks of the procedure. Scarring may initially appear red as the area heals, but should gradually fade over time.
